Is Hunter really that bad? I got accepted into City College, City Tech, Baruch and Hunter. My preferred major is Nursing, which I know City College and Baruch does not offer. Baruch was the school I really wanted to go to, so I was going to accept the offer, finish my pre-requisites there and transfer, but that honestly makes no sense when I can just go to Hunter and apply for the program, since you have to be with the school at least a semester/year….

No working internet and we’re still expected to take finals?? This is honestly THE worst time for the system to be down. It’s finals week, a lot of people depend on the library and computers for their work. Me personally, I depend on the library to focus and I haven’t been able to go since there is no internet in the school. On top of the fact that the library is literally a social paradise….

Okay, this is going to be a bit of a ramble, but let me tell you about my situation and how I dealt with it. I moved to New Jersey, so I wasn’t qualified for in-state tuition. However, since you live in New York, you should be eligible for in-state tuition, which could significantly reduce your costs.

FAFSA now has an option where you can apply as an independent student if you have extenuating circumstances….

Honestly, none. That said, each schools has their pros vs cons. The best schools for most students are the ones without specialization in my opinion, similarity to how Ivy League schools operate. For example, Queens College, Brookyln College, and etc.

Specialization refers to how and where is resources are allocated to. Making the school, specialist in one field, novice in the rest. For example, art schools cater most of their resources to art-students, not non-art students….

It’s about the library.

If you want to socialize, meet up with your friends and chit chat, play games, laugh, complain, or vent. Do it quietly, or do it literally anywhere else.

It’s infuriating to students who are actually in the library seeking a quiet place to focus. It’s not just the second floor. The students that can’t find a table to talk go to the third floor….

BMCC is right next to a Whole Foods. It’s close to the World Trade Center, so there are lots of people around. There are more dogs in handbags/purses than dogs walking on leashes.

It sucks. But think about this in this way:

  1. If there is no downcurve, you get what you get.
  2. You pay for school to study. Exams are part of it. An ability to solve problems under pressure and tight deadlines. If they cheat, they cheat themselves out of the opportunity to learn and improve.

  1. Do nothing because they don’t want to deal with everything being online again, and just tout their vaccine and testing protocols.

The 2.0 GPA minimum to graduate with a Bachelor’s is a CUNY-wide rule. Your Registrar’s Office, nor even the President of your college, has any authority to waive this requirement, and if they were to then they could face disciplinary action. You will have to either take more classes to boost your GPA (I suggest retaking courses you got Fs in - they must be JJ courses and you must repeat them at JJ), or petition for grade changes to boost your GPA….

  1. You are not considering that a person ate, drank their coffee, and then stayed because they thought it may be stupid to go to the library if they had class in an hour or two.

  2. People may not have a place to snack, chill, or talk, with their friends. The cafeteria is a better place than the library to do that.

I think any seating area except the library, should be used freely….

But if Hunter is your first choice def email or call to see about an appeal. Although, I never heard of them nor any CUNY for that matter doing so. Have you considered taking a semester off? Grief is hard to recover from, but gets easier and perhaps a semester off will allow you to hit the ground running.

Even if you don’t want to take a semester off nothing you listed stops you from moving forward. There’s still time to get internship, perhaps not at a bigger firm but there’s nothing wrong with smaller firms, anything above a 3.0 is still pretty good you can improve your GPA with 3 more semester left….
