If she is not explicitly a service animal, you will have a somewhat hard time getting approval (most people’s pets are emotional support animals “to a certain degree”). While I haven’t gone through the process myself, my understanding is that you would need, at the very least, certification/registration of your dog as a service animal, as well as a letter from a medical professional stating that your service animal is 100% necessary for your health, and that you would be unable to adequately pursue an education at NYU otherwise. It’s possible that you may also need to provide proof of a disability to the Moses Center, such as chronic mental illness, and proof of service training for your dog from an accredited trainer. If you were living without your dog for your freshman year, you may be asked what circumstances changed in your life that you now need a service animal– be prepared to explain this with documentation from a medical professional, if necessary.
