Sophomore here. Transferring next semester but I’ll give a run down.

  1. Social life here is kinda dead. Most students are commuters. Located in a crappy neighborhood. Which means you should go home the fk right away when classes are over because some students got robbed or hurt by thugs.
  2. This school had some shady things happened in past (e.g school president stealing money)
  3. Classes are limited. Core classes for stem major gets filled up very quick, especially with a good professor (good professors are rare in CCNY). So choose classes with good professors as early as possible.
  4. Professors names especially in the math department are hidden On cunyfirst to prevent people from using rate my professor. They reveal the names 1 week before school starts. If you get a horrible professor RIP.
  5. Annoying attendance policy but in higher level courses they don’t care.
  6. You must have your City college ID with you at all cost. must show to the Guards to enter the building. Don’t have your ID with you… too bad. Also, every semester you must update the sticker on your ID.
  7. Library is kinda okay. But the library rooms in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floor are usually occupied and they are outdated. Kinda nasty though.
  8. This school has a low graduation rate as most students are delayed because of a lack of good classes with good professors.
  9. This school purposely makes some classes harder than they’re supposed to be, which prevent people from graduating. This caused them to delay their graduation (purposely to make as money as they can from them before they graduate).
  10. Programs are underfunded even though this school has millions in endowment. Purposely giving them administrators a pay raise for no reason.
  11. School food sucks. Just go to the bodega outside campus.
  12. Clubs are meh. If you’re new, try to get your gpa as high as possible by taking easy classes with easy professors. Because later on your GPA will taking a beating in higher level courses. Remember to use RateMyProfessors Good luck!
