Hey welcome to BC! I did my Bachelor’s degree there and now I’m getting my Master’s there as well. It’s a great school!
Generally speaking, a lot of the professors are good and willing to help. Every Professor has office hours (it’s required) so they have to be there to help you! Of course, there will always be a few in every department that aren’t that great, but a great way to avoid those (if possible, sometimes only one Professor teaches a course) is to look on ratemyprofessors.com
Your freshman year, you’re mainly going to be taking electives and “core” classes (classes that EVERYONE has to take like English 1, Math, Biology, etc.). So, there’s really not much use in getting close with your freshman year professors. Personally, I never spoke to any of my freshman professors ever again after their classes ended. The only time I would say MAYBE get close with a freshman Professor is if, for example, you take the core biology class and you know you want to eventually major in bio.
I never personally got involved in clubs/volunteering/events cause I double majored and was stressed, lol, but there were plenty of opportunities! You can check out the school website, look for flyers around campus, or visit the WEB building where the club rooms are located. Sometimes they even hold a club fair where you can walk around and check out the clubs. It may be a little different now since this is the first semester back in person since the pandemic, but I’m sure things will pick up again.
In my experience, if you want to make friends, join a club or fraternity/sorority. Since it’s a commuter school and there are no dorms on campus (besides the few shitty ones a few blocks away that barely anyone lives in), people don’t really hang around on campus. They keep to themselves and just go to class and then dip to go home. Personally I only made one friend in my now 6 years on campus - I just kept the same friends from HS that went to BC with me.
Hope this helps!
