It’s not well advertised, but CUNY has a program called Reconnect for people returning to school after a long break (whether you first went to CUNY or somewhere else): https://www.cuny.edu/admissions/reconnect/
The great thing about this program is that it connects you with a (live, human) advisor to navigate the red tape and complications that come with returning to school many years later. I’d try calling to see if they can help you reverse this. They also help with financial aid for non-traditional students.
