CUNY’s Chancellor designated Italian Americans as a protected ethnicity at CUNY in 1976. CUNY began formally tracking the representation of Italian Americans beginning in the 1990’s. The Graduate School and University Center (GC) is one of the affirmative action establishments at the City University of New York (CUNY).
