Yes it is and there isn’t really a way around that (for good reason). I had a student that couldn’t speak or understand English last semester and it was very hard to communicate in class, I was just lucky we had another student who offered to be a translator so it was all good.

If you’re more worried about your speaking ability, generally it’s all focused on reading and writing papers so you should be OK. But if you’re still concerned, if you’re not using translation/chatgpt to help you write this post I think you might be underestimating yourself because this is very well written and better than some of the native speakers I’ve seen who passed ENG 101 ;) .
