Don’t go to school just for classes. Talk to your professors, ask questions, try to make a good connection with your prof as that would be very helpful for future, talk to your classmates, attend free events for students, participate in free workshops.
Also, there would always be something going on every time during “free hours” so you can grab your lunch from there. That’s gonna save you tons in lunch money.
There would be opportunities to get involved on campus thru clubs, volunteering, part-time jobs - take advantage of all that!! A must join club is QC ALPFA and the Career Development Committee. The more you know people, the better - they can help you by writing recommendation letters - these letters will be helpful for internships and jobs.
Try to do at least 2-3 internships.
Don’t buy textbooks where possible. You can borrow textbooks from the QC library and from local libraries such as the Queens Public Library and the New York Public Library. You can get free library card from your local library.
If you take summer classes, you can graduate early. Usually summer session is not covered by financial aid.
Also, some free resources that are a must. You should visit 1 and 2 throughout your undergrad but definitely a must in your first year:
- First Year Experience
- Career Center
- Tutoring Center
- Writing Center
- Honors and Scholarship
- Office of Student Life
- Mental Health and Counseling
- Food Pantry
