CUNY IT Aide here. Unfortunately despite being annoying, it is a necessary step. Cyber attack is indeed serious. We are talking of your cunyfirst, that stores a lot of sensitive info. If it was compromised then yall be coming complaining how there is no measures to make it more secure. And yes questions and MFA are among the measures. So is the longer password. As you see 8 characters wasn’t enough for security. They sent everyone a deadline to change the password but only a few followed it. So what happened as a Result?Tens of thousands of people woke up on June 3 unable to log in and started to change their passwords. Servers are not made for so many people performing this at once. That’s why the deadline was reminded twice, to avoid overload. The servers went down and people got all sorts of errors. It took several hours to get more servers working so people can do something that is overdue due to their own oversight. So do change the password when you are asked to, not when it is late. For those still having issues: If the page loads too long- wait, it will load eventually. If you don’t remember security questions- at the bottom it says use another method, and this way you get a link on your alternative email. If the alternative email too old and you have no access- email the IT to reset your account so you can reclaim it. If you type security answers or password wrong multiple times, it will give a long “proxy” error. This means you locked your account; email IT to unlock it. Cheers everyone.
