then why does lagcc have one of the best nclex pass rates in the ENTIRE state of NY, even better than a lot of privates (mind you you can check the NY NCLEX pass rates for yourself.) it is because it is a competitive program. you need a 3.7 gpa, and you admitted yourself it’s competitive because it’s cheap, so you admit it’s competitive. also most CUNY students graduate debt free, privates cannot even begin to compare to that, when i received fin aid offers from them it was still upwards of 15k+ a year, while CUNY cc’s are only 4800 in tuition a year and 4 year CUNY schools are 6600 a year. as for lower graduation rates, CUNY has mad non traditional students: older people, people with full time jobs, parents, because of how accessible and affordable the education is. most of the students at private schools are traditional students whose biggest concern is college and going to school, very different life circumstances. this then causes a lower grad rate then the one seen at privates because issues like how to manage all that come in, especially as CUNY caters to a lot of underserved populations like first gens.

in terms of columbia yeah one could say their fin aid is good, but people still have to take out parent plus loans. for NYU their aid is never sufficient considering the fact that the school is 100k a year. also when you see that figure about how much debt graduates have…it doesn’t take into account things like parent plus loans where your parents take out a loan for the COA per year AND private loans. it makes sense only 25k would be taken out when the max federal loan per year is between 5-7k.

just admit you don’t know what you are talking about, and that you are classist and elitist af. yes where you go to school matters…for some majors. Nursing is not one of them, all that matters is your degree (BSN preferred for big hospitals).
