NYC Nursing Advice/CUNY Rant

NYC Nursing Advice/CUNY Rant

Hi guys I really need some advice on where to go for nursing school and I really need some advice. Pls stay tuned for my CUNY rant as well. So I live in NYC (northwestern queens) and am having trouble finding a program that is fairly priced (I am willing to take out loans) and gives you an opportunity to work (hoping for a school with evening/weekend classes/clinicals). So I currently attend CUNY LaGuardia CC and I applied for the nursing program and ended up getting 4th on the waitlist. I will list my grades:

A&P 1: A- Eng101: A- Psych: A Chem: B- A&P 2, Microbio, Stats, and Development Psych are all currently in progress for this semester but am aiming for As!! And I scored an 88% on the ATI TEAS exam.

LaGuardia: I’m really upset about getting on the waitlist and I inquired to retake chemistry for a higher gpa but they won’t allow me because I already passed. Also their clinical rotation schedule is awful, not sure how anyone who goes there can work

BMCC: I transferred to BMCC because of their evening program and they had told me I could retake chemistry for a new grade as long as I take it my first semester there but then they told me the week that I transferred in this policy had changed and that they would average both grades, so then I wouldn’t even qualify for their 3.65 gpa requirement to sit for the HESI exam! So I transferred right back to LaGuardia. Also I transferred there for Spring and they told me because I’d be retaking chem and their special bmcc only math class, I would have to wait a gap semester and if I get in I would start clinicals in the spring. They didn’t tell me any of this before I applied!

QCC: I found out they also had an evening program and went there to try to transfer but ran into two issues I could not believe. They were giving me a C for psychology since I had taken the AP course in high school and received a 3 on the ap exam and said they would not replace that with the A I got in the actual college course of psychology. And the second problem is during Covid time I had registered for a&p1 at LaGuardia during a winter session and did not drop it in time and received a WU which they count as an F! So there goes that option

City Tech: I don’t know too much about their program but I did speak to them and they said they would take my A in psychology and since they don’t require chemistry as a prereq I would have a significantly higher gpa there but spring semester already started and I had just been screwed over by bmcc so they weren’t taken late applications

I haven’t really researched any other CUNY programs as most others are in the Bronx/Deep BK/SI and I would prefer not to make that commute unless it’s literally my only choice. I’ve been primarily looking at CUNY ADN programs since I am trying to get my RN asap and it’s cheap and I’m currently enrolled in cuny so it’s been easy for me to see the schedules of classes but I am trying to find out information about other programs out there within an hour commute whether it’s ADN or BSN at this point because it seems as though it’s going to take me just as long for the ADN anyway. I also have a previous associates degree in business so I do have many other flex core classes complete so I wouldn’t be starting from the beginning beginning if I did a BSN program.

Does anyone have any recommendations for accredited nursing schools in NYC (or long island) that are not as competitive as these cuny community colleges and aren’t absolutely insane with requirements? I feel so drained and hopeless and out of options and am hoping to find an answer by the Fall semester so in case I don’t get into LaGuardias program my second try I will have an option.

Thank you so much if you read this all and I hope someone can please guide me <3
