Denied admissions to CSI as a transfer student due to low gpa..from 1996.

Long story short, I’m 46 and looking to go back to school. I failed out of my first year of school 28 years ago (non CUNY school) because I was a dumb 18 year old, but unfortunately I have to apply as a transfer student since I technically did attend college in the past. I just received word that my application was denied because my GPA is lower than 2.0…. from 1996. 🤦‍♂️

I was told that I would be a good case for an appeal (already wrote the heartfelt essay) and to attach any certifications and letters of recommendation. I’ve been self employed for over a decade. Any certifications I do have are from well over 10 years ago and I don’t even have them anymore, and there are very few people outside of family that I could ask to write a letter of recommendation.

Has anyone faced this before?

Update: I submitted my appeal with an essay explaining my reason for poor past academic performance and my later accomplishments. My transfer was approved. Looks like I got worried and panicked over nothing.
