Sontag does CCNY

The late author Susan Sontag’s known for lecturing at Columbia, but folks (herself included) often forget she taught philosophy 1959-1960 at CCNY. She’d just come back from a PhD program at Oxford (she didn’t finish her dissertation lol), divorced her husband, and moved to NYC with her young son.

Sharing this gem I culled from an old Microcosm yearbook + a letter to the editor of The New Yorker from one of her students some years back. She was certainly the youngest lecturer in the department and the only woman (barring the administrative assistant).
