If your TAP disappeared, please read this post.
Those of you with TAP problems, Please read this post!
I have noticed a lot of threads opening up about TAP issues. I was one of those students and I navigated the confusing maze Baruch has set up for TAP issues so you don’t have to. Here is what I wrote in another thread, I hope this helps!
Note: This is written for Baruch students, simply replace Baruch with your school and this guide will work just fine .
Okay so I already went through this with Baruch. Here’s what you have to check first.
If you are a transfer student from another school, all you need to do is log into HESC website, hit modify information and see if the school names listed says Baruch, if not click edit, then click I will not attend and add Baruch. If this was your only problem, tap will reappear in 3-4 weeks.
If Baruch is listed and the tap is not available. Here is what you do next quoted by Baruch registrar email:
“In order to assist you for your TAP OR Excelsior inquiry (the requirements are similar), it would help if you can respond with Full page screen shots AND your EMPL ID showing that:
(1). You logged onto HESC.NY.gov and obtained a screenshot of your award page stating that your application for TAP/Excelsior for the 2022/2023 academic year was approved and showing the college and award amounts.
And
(2.) That you check FACTS and take screen shots showing if you are meeting compliance requirements.
You check FACTS by logging onto your CUNYFirst and going to your student center. Look for the Box labeled “DegreeWorks” and click on it. On the next page you will see the “FACTS” blue link. When you click this, accept the terms (if you haven’t already) and then look for the icon that says “CURRENT ELIGIBILITY” and choose “SUMMARY” first. This page will show if you are “eligible” or “ineligible” and if TAP is considering any of your courses as “non-compliant”. Please note that you need 12 credits of green “Y”s for TAP compliance. That said, it is not enough to just take “12 credits”. You must be taking 12 TAP compliant credits. If one of your 12 credits isn’t necessary for you to obtain your degree, it doesn’t count towards your TAP credits. IF you see a red “N” by any of your courses, we recommend that you go to the Registrar’s office and fill out a TAP compliance form. Filing a TAP compliance form will have the TAP compliance unit in the Registrar review your courses for eligibility.
NEXT YOU SHOULD GO BACK TO CURRENT ELIGIBILITY AND THE CHOOSE “DETAILS”. As you scroll down the page on details, it will show you the reason in red that you are not eligible for financial aid. If you have a different compliance issue other than courses in red, please contact us with that issue and we will try to assist you to correct it if possible. If you have a purple question mark you either do not have your transfer evaluation completed (see undergraduate admissions) or you are taking an epermit (please file compliance form).
You can file a TAP compliance form through the TAP compliance unit located in the Registrar’s office. You find the form athttps://www.baruch.cuny.edu/registrar/forms/index.html. Once there, click on “Record Updates” and then click “TAP course compliance”. It would then be up to that unit to manually review your courses and make a determination if the course(s) are required for your major/degree
Please note, if you have not checked these items when you contact us, you will only be directed to do so then which will delay you obtaining your answers.FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT CHECKED FACTS YOU CANNOT ASSUME YOU ARE MEETING COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS”
Hope this helps everyone here figure out and clear the TAP mess. Cheers!
